Le Sserafim, the sensational South Korean girl group, has taken the music industry by storm since their debut in May 2022. Comprising of five talented members – Sakura, Kim Chae-won, Huh Yun-jin, Kazuha, and Hong Eun-chae – Le Sserafim has captured the hearts of fans worldwide with their unique charm and undeniable talent. Formed by Source Music, Le Sserafim introduced themselves to the world with their first extended play, “Fearless,” which was released on May 2, 2022. The EP garnered significant attention and success, selling over 175,000 copies on its release day alone. It also earned the group their first music show win on SBS MTV’s The Show, just eight days after their debut, solidifying their rising popularity. The name “Le Sserafim” itself is an anagram of the phrase “I’m Fearless,” representing the group’s fearlessness and determination to overcome any obstacle in their path. This resonates strongly with their music and performances, as they exude confidence and power on stage.
However, Le Sserafim’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Prior to their debut, member Kim Ga-ram became embroiled in controversy when she was accused of bullying other students during her middle school years and engaging in underage smoking and drinking. The allegations were denied by Hybe Corporation, which claimed that Kim was the victim, not the perpetrator, of bullying. They vowed to take legal action against those spreading false rumors. Despite the controversy, Kim remained in the debut lineup initially. However, on July 20, 2022, it was announced that Kim Ga-ram would depart from the group and her exclusive contract had been terminated. Le Sserafim continued as a five-member group, demonstrating their resilience and unity. Following the departure of Kim Ga-ram, Le Sserafim released their second EP, “Antifragile,” on October 17, 2022. The album showcased their versatility and growth as a group, and it quickly climbed the charts, reaching number 14 on the Billboard 200. This achievement marked Le Sserafim as the fastest K-pop female group to debut on the prestigious chart.
In addition to their musical endeavors, Le Sserafim has expanded their reach through various creative outlets. On November 24, 2022, Hybe Corporation released a webtoon titled “Crimson Heart,” inspired by the group’s message of fearlessly advancing in the face of adversity. The webtoon allowed fans to delve deeper into the group’s world and aspirations. Continuing their upward trajectory, Le Sserafim made their Japan debut on January 25, 2023, with the Japanese version of their hit song “Fearless.” This marked an exciting milestone for the group as they expanded their fanbase and further cemented their global presence. Fans have been eagerly anticipating Le Sserafim’s comeback, and on May 1, 2023, the group released their highly anticipated first studio album, “Unforgiven.” This album showcases the group’s growth and maturity as artists, offering a diverse range of musical styles and concepts that captivate listeners. Le Sserafim’s journey is a testament to their unwavering determination, resilience, and passion for their craft.
